Koala Tavern is located in the beautiful Moreton Bay suburb of Capalaba. This fantastic pub is a local family-friendly favourite with a fun vibe. Just 30 minutes from Brisbane CBD, it has a lively and happening atmosphere and plenty to offer for the whole family.

Some cool features include a brand-new beer garden with plenty of outdoor seating. The beer garden features a beautiful outdoor kid’s playground, which is by far our favourite facility. Enjoy the beautiful Queensland sun with friends and family, and watch your kids play in a fully enclosed and safe environment.

The Koala Tavern also features a public bar where you can watch live sports and a restaurant serving your favourite pub classics. On the weekends, you can enjoy live music, daily specials and meal deals, and fun events and activities for the whole family.

One of the best pubs with playgrounds in Brisbane

The kids’ play area at the Koala Tavern is a beauty. It has a real Aussie feel to it. Green and gold in colour and, of course, koala-themed. The playground consists of a tunnel of cubes stacked five tiers high. It features almost every imaginable activity, from hidey holes and tunnels to cargo nets and slides.

It has a soft synthetic turf surface and is fully enclosed with safety fencing. The playground is close to the beer garden, so it is in complete view for those who have little ones they would like to watch closely. Another essential feature is the shade cloth canopy to protect the kids from harmful rays.

This playground covers almost everything and will keep the kids entertained for hours. It is an excellent location for sunny Queensland afternoons. It’s safe to say that we all love a good Sunday session with friends, especially when we’re not being interrupted by the kids.

Other family activities and events

Regarding family friendliness, the Koala Tavern offers much more than just a fantastic playground. Every Saturday and Sunday, from 11:30am-2:30pm, they have their Kid-Tastic Weekends. It’s a cool community event for kids, with many fun activities, including arts and crafts, story time and fancy dress.

The best day to visit the Koala Tavern would be their Family Fun Day, usually the first Sunday of the month. It is a fantastic day out with the family. The kids can get involved in many fun-filled activities, including a wildlife show featuring koalas and reptiles. Other entertainment includes face painting, discos, and other games and activities.

Of course, the Koala Tavern has facilities for adults to enjoy while the kids are entertained. On the weekends, the beer garden showcases local acoustic musicians. And sports fans don’t have to miss their favourite teams playing, with live sports being shown.

Koala Tavern menu – Aussie pub classics

The Koala tavern serves classic Aussie pub food. There is something for all tastes, from schnitzels and steaks to salads and a whole rotisserie chicken. Main meals are in the $25-$45 range, and most dietary requirements, including gluten-free, are catered for.

While they don’t regularly serve breakfast, they offer a buffet every Sunday from 8:00am to 10:00am. The buffet costs $25 for adults and $10 for kids ages 1 to 12. You can either make reservations or walk in. 

For lunch, they are open from 11:30am to 2:30pm Monday through Sunday and serve classic pub food like burgers, sandwiches, steaks, and seafood. They also have a $16 lunch menu that includes chicken schnitzel, fish and chips, bangers and mash, calamari, and burgers. 

They are open for dinner from 5pm—8:30pm Monday – Thursday and Sunday. And 5pm to 9pm on Friday and Saturday. Some meal options include curries, burgers, and pasta, to name a few. We’re a sucker for a whole rotisserie chook, so it was a no-brainer for us. They claim it to be the best roast chook south of Brisbane, which is a fair call in our opinion. 

A cool thing to note: If you’re visiting the Koala Tavern on a Wednesday, when you purchase a Parmy, you will support the Save the Koala Foundation. The Koala Tavern donates $1 from every Parmy sold on a Wednesday to this charity.

Koala Tavern kids’ menu

There is a dedicated kids’ menu for lunch and dinner. The menu has burgers, chips, chicken schnitzel, nuggets, spaghetti bolognese, and ham and pineapple pizza. All the items were $12 each, which is pretty reasonable. They also offer dairy-free and gluten-free options for the kids’ meals.

Just 30 minutes from Brisbane CBD, this family-friendly pub has everything you need—delicious food, a fantastic beer garden, a great kids’ play area, and live music. There’s something for everyone, whether you’re having a meal, enjoying a drink, or watching the kids play. If you’re living in or visiting Brisbane with the family, you can’t go past a visit to the Koala Tavern.
