One of the best restaurants for families in Brisbane

We have not encountered too many venues designed specifically with families and children in mind—well, not good ones, anyway. Jugar (pronounced Hwey-Gahr, which is Spanish for play) is located in Brisbane’s trendy West End and is exactly that. With an enormous glass-enclosed play area with a playground situated in the centre of the restaurant, you can actually relax whilst you enjoy a meal and drink.

The restaurant itself is beautiful, boasting a clean and modern aesthetic. It combines tan leather seating with pastel-coloured décor in different textures, such as leather and suede. Jugar is open seven days a week for lunch and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It even serves coffee and includes a licensed bar, so it really does have all bases covered.

A play area and playground for kids of all ages

It’s no surprise that the kids’ play area at Jugar is impressive. If all family members purchase a meal, admission to the play area is free, as per their La Familia deal. Otherwise, there is a $10 admission fee. The area is suitable for kids of all ages, including toddlers. Be aware that it is just one combined space with no separate area for the real little ones.

Within the play area, there is a really cool playground, which is a two-tiered structure. The play equipment includes a climbing wall, a rope cargo net tunnel, and a slide. There are many other activities and games as well. Some of these include a picnic table and a cubby house with a play kitchen. It doesn’t stop there either; the creative kids can draw on the chalkboard table or enjoy a nice book with plenty of reading material available. Toddlers and small children can enjoy the cute little ride-ons or the endless amount of small toys and games.

Jugar is open for weekend breakfast with a small but effective breakfast menu. Although the offering is quite small, they still have options to suit most dietary requirements. These include gluten-free and dairy-free, as well as vegetarian and vegan-suitable meals. Expect to pay around $18 to $23 for most meals, with the big breakfast priced at $27. These include your standard eggs, omelettes or even a chilli scramble if you fancy a bit of a kick. Give the nourish bowl a got if you’re feeling like something nutritious, or the Belgian waffles if you have a sweet tooth.

The dinner menu has much more variety, ranging from $17 to $24 for lunch and $20-$30 for most main dinners. A few meals, including the barramundi and steak, are over $30. Once again, there are plenty of options for anyone requiring gluten- and dairy-free, vegan, and vegetarian options. There are too many to mention them all, but some include Albondigas (Spanish meatballs) and things like tacos, kofta and burgers, to name a few. Healthy options include nourishing bowls and salads. There are a few extra dinner additions, including seafood pasta, steak and a half chicken.

Jugar Kids Menu Brisbane

One of our favourite things about this venue is the kid’s menu. These are definitely not the regular pub-style meals we’re so used to seeing at most of the places we visit. They also have options for most dietary requirements, with gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan, and vegetarian options.

For breakfast, the kids can choose from healthy and nutritious fresh fruit and yogurt or delicious avocado on sourdough. There is also kids bacon and eggs and Belgian waffles for the well-behaved kids who deserve a treat. The kid’s dinner menu offers a few more options, including a mini nourish bowl, linguini pasta, or panko-crumbed chicken strips, to name a few. All kids’ meals are $12, except for the cheeseburger, which is $13.

Tea and coffee, refreshments and a licensed bar

Another great feature of Jugar is that it has a licensed bar. The bar offers a wide variety of cocktails, wines, beers, and ciders. For responsible parents and kids, there are some delicious refreshments, including fresh juices, soft drinks, and milkshakes. If you’re in need of a good caffeine hit, you can also find all your favourite hot beverages.
