Eating Out With Kids

Fun things to do Sunshine Coast: The Ginger Factory

50 Pioneer Rd, Yandina QLD 4561

One of the best family activities on the Sunshine Coast

Whether it is a relaxing meal in the Ginger Kitchen Cafe whilst the kids play in the undercover outdoor playground. Or maybe you’re looking for a fantastic day out full of family fun, activities and entertainment. If you’re on the Sunshine Coast, why not pay the Ginger Factory a visit? Soak up the tropical surroundings and enjoy the many attractions it has to offer.

It is open seven days, entry is free, and there is plenty to see and do for everyone. There are train and boat rides, kids’ play areas, a Gruffalo trail, a bee show, and tastings for the kids. Or Take a stroll through the rainbow garden and explore the Rainbrella Project—a garden walk with hundreds of rainbow umbrellas hung in the tree canopies.

Undercover outdoor play areas for the kids

The outdoor playground at the Ginger Factory is undercover, which means it is also suitable for wet weather. It even includes a smaller adjoining section designated for toddlers and smaller children. The main section of the playground includes a maze of tunnels and slides as well as a climbing net and more. The smaller toddler space features a train and carriage for them to crawl through. There are also colourful abacus balls and a giant game of snakes and ladders. The play areas are visible from the Ginger Kitchen Café; therefore, you are able to keep an eye on the little tackers whilst you eat.

Ginger Factory menu – The Ginger Kitchen Café

There’s no better place to relax in peace whilst sampling some of the best produce the Sunshine Coast has to offer. Kick back in the Ginger Kitchen Café, amongst the beautiful sub-tropical gardens, whilst the kids have endless fun in the outdoor playground. Unlike most tourist attractions, with free admission, the food in the café is very affordable. The most expensive main meal on the menu is only $22. It’s quite a condensed menu, though, consisting of shared plates, burgers and larger plates.

For burger lovers, there are a few to choose from, including a beef burger, chicken burger, and pulled pork burger. There is also a mushroom burger as a vegetarian option. Other mains include ginger beer-battered fish and chips and a chicken curry. The menu also offers some delicious and nutritious grilled chicken bowls and salads. Some of the share plates include bush-spiced calamari, three-cheese arancini, and toasted Turkish bread and dips.

The menu includes gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options, so there is something for everyone. The café is open for lunch daily and serves coffee all day.

Ginger Factory kids menu – Nutritious meals for the little ones

I don’t know about you, but we love seeing a kid’s menu with some nutritious and healthy options.

And you’ll find a few of these here at the Ginger Kitchen Café. These include a grilled chicken salad and falafel flat bread with hummus and salad. If those aren’t something your kids are interested in, then there are also some more standard options, such as nuggets and chips or fish and chips. All kids’ meals are $12.

Smokin’ Hot Sundays – every second Sunday of the month

The Smokin’ Hot Sundays event is held every second Sunday of the Month in the Buderim Ginger Beer Garden. We absolutely love a good Sunday Session, and there is nothing better than this. Relaxing in the afternoon sun whilst feasting on slow-cooked meats and washing it all down with a refreshing Buderim Ginger Beer. It is an absolute must-do if you ask us!

The Ginger Factory Gruffalo Trail – Fun family activities

Another free activity that the kids will love is the Gruffalo trail, an interactive journey through the rain forests. Using the app on their phones, the kids can follow the trail in search of the famous Gruffalo and many other characters.

The Gruffalo often performs live at the Ginger Factory, so the kids can meet him in person. Contact the Ginger Factory or check out their social media pages for appearance times.

Other fun (paid) activities and attractions

Some other rides and activities also entertain the kids at the Ginger Factory. These incur an admission fee, which you can pay individually or bundle together to, say a few bucks. These include the Ginger Train, the Overboard (boat ride), live bee show and the Factory Tour.

The Ginger Train is an old Moreton sugar cane train, which is now used to give tours around the Ginger Factory Grounds. Sit back and enjoy a relaxed tour through the lush tropical gardens.

Overboard is a small kids animated boat ride with music featuring over 200 handmade puppets.

The live bee show and tasting is an educational experience where you can learn everything you ever wanted to know about bees and the life of a beekeeper. Learn all about the different species of bees and taste some of the different honey varieties.

The Factory Tour is of the Buderim Ginger factory. Here, you can learn about the growing and harvesting of ginger and how it is turned into some of their famous ginger products.
