The Velo Project - kids play area

Sunshine Coast Café serves up locally sourced food and coffee

You will find this little gem of a café hidden away in the back streets of Mooloolaba on the beautiful Sunshine Coast. The Velo Project is a place where locals gather to enjoy great coffee and great food. All of which are made from fresh and locally sourced ingredients.

It has a relaxed and cosy atmosphere, with an industrial eclectic vibe and cool vintage furniture. There is also an outside courtyard with plenty of tables and an area for the little ones to play. The Velo project is also dog-friendly, so long as you keep your fur baby on its lead.

Cafe with play area and cubby house

The Velo project is kid-friendly, but the play area is more suited to small children and toddlers. They also have one of the best kids’ meal options you will find anywhere with their “little Harry’s kid’s menu”.

The kids’ play area is located in the back courtyard. It is a small area with a little timber cubby house and a chalkboard wall. It might not seem like much, but it definitely kept our little ones occupied long enough for us to enjoy our delicious meal.

The Velo Project kids menu – The best kids’ meals you will find

unicorn babycino

Most meals are in the $8-$12 range and include both dairy-free and gluten-free options. Some of the meals include toasted ciabatta with your choice of spread or an egg. There is also kids’ avo on toast and kid’s toasties with bacon and fried egg, avocado and cheese, or vegemite and cheese.

In our opinion, the kids’ crepes are the standout and definitely a point of difference from your regular kids’ menu. They have a great variety of options, too, including Nutella and cream, bacon, banana and maple, and ham and cheese, to name a few.

Our little 5-year-old girl absolutely loved the unicorn babycino! They also make an original babycino, a great range of fresh juices, and delicious dairy-free smoothies.

The Velo Project menu – Great options for mum and dad

Most of the main meals on the menu are in the $18-$25 price range and include plenty of gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan options.

Light meals and snacks include homemade cakes or toasted ciabatta with your choice of spreads, eggs, bacon, or smashed avocado. You can also expect to see a nice range of nutritious bowls with fresh ingredients, seasonal fruit, and sweet and savoury crepes.

If you’re up for a cool spin on a classic breakfast, why not try the eggs benedict with rosemary marinated steak, Fraser Isle spanner crab, or tamari pork belly? They also do it with roasted Swiss brown mushrooms for a meat-free option.

Other Cafes and pubs in the area

CK’s Coffee Bar and Whole Foods in Maroochydore is a great option for another cool cafe with a children’s play area. The Buderim Tavern has a great indoor playground for those with older kids.
